The SUV also is available with a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that produces 290 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and delivers 325 pounds-per-foot of torque at 4,000 rpm. Ascender performance is further enhanced by sequential multi-point fuel injections, platinum-tipped spark plugs, and a standard, automatic 4-speed transmission with lockup torque converter and overdrive. Lastly, all Ascender models also feature independent coil-over-shock front suspension and five-link rear suspension with coil springs and double-acting hydraulic shock absorbers.
